I’ve now secured a job teaching Sport at Lancaster and Morecambe College and have this course to thank for that.
“Sport has always been an important part of my life, from my early plans to teach PE at secondary level through to my experiences in the Royal Air Force. It was after I left the services and undertook some work experience in a secondary school that my focus changed and I decided on a career teaching sport to further education students.
A PGCE at Edge Hill University was the obvious next step for me. It is near my home and came with personal recommendations from school friends. More importantly, it has a really good reputation for teacher training and has proved to be a great place to study.
The learning environment is supportive and my course leader in particular has been fantastic. Like the other staff, he has lots of experience of different aspects of further education and is happy to share those with you. I can’t speak highly enough of him and honestly don’t know how I’d have done this if not for his encouragement.
My relationship with other students was great too. Even though there was a wide range of ages we were a close group and all very encouraging of each other. I knew that this would be a busy year and the workload was heavy at times, but the support of other students made such a difference.
I’ve now secured a job teaching Sport at Lancaster and Morecambe College and have this course to thank for that. It has opened many doors for me in terms of classroom experience, delivering different activities and in learning how to be a teacher. Together with the interview support I received from the University’s Careers Centre this course has definitely helped me to get where I want to be.”
