BSc (Hons) Information Technology Management for Business

Kelsey Duncan

Studying this course has not only helped me to understand processes, it has also helped me to recognise the impact my work will have on a company.

“I always wanted to study IT and business, so feel the BSc (Hons) in Information Technology Management for Business has been a really good choice. I particularly like the business modules as they provide variety to the IT-specific modules that the course contains.

As part of my degree I am undertaking a year-long placement with IBM, working in Human Resources in a role providing general partner support. It is a very enjoyable position that provides me with lots of insight into different areas of HR, including how it links with the wider organisation.

I can honestly say I have learnt so much on this placement because it has given me the opportunity to undertake a range of different tasks. I have planned events, worked on projects with senior leaders, and represented IBM at Edge Hill University during a graduate recruitment event.

I’ve also attended an interview day at a local secondary school to help pupils with their CV preparation and interview strategies, as well as volunteered at a ‘Bring Your Child to Work Day’ to help excite children about working in business and IT.

I opted for the placement in HR as it was a way in which I was able to explore my interest and see if I was suited for it. The work I’ve undertaken has improved my communication and data analysis skills, and I feel I have been constantly learning and developing new ways to do things.

Alongside the work I have made many wonderful friends on my placement. It is great to work and socialise with so many lovely people and I don’t know what I’m going to do when placement ends and we all go home!

Because I have loved my time on this placement I have applied for a summer internship with IBM, which would see me offered a role at the end if I’m successful.

Studying this course has not only helped me to understand processes, it has also helped me to recognise the impact my work will have on a company. I believe it will equip me with the skills to apply for an IT or business-related position when I graduate, or provide me with a platform to embark upon a master’s degree.”
