“I did Design & Technology at A Level and really loved the creativity, innovation and craftsmanship involved. The course at Edge Hill was perfect for me because I wanted develop my D&T skills to degree standard but also get a teaching qualification.
I loved the wide-ranging nature of the modules; I was able to explore the areas I really enjoyed like product design and resistant materials, but I also discovered new things like engineering graphics, electronics, food technology and textiles, which really broadened my knowledge. Everything you learn is transferable to the classroom environment.
I secured a job as a D&T teacher at Marsden Heights in Nelson, Lancs before I graduated and I felt that the course really prepared me for employment. I now share my own experiences with current students as part of Edge Hill’s NQT programme and am the Secondary NQT rep on the University’s Initial Teacher Training Board. I think it’s really important to try and help others along if you can – hearing from someone who’s recently been in your position can be quite inspirational.”
