I want to be a language specialist, so being able to learn Mandarin while I’m at Edge Hill has been great.
“Like many people I chose Edge Hill University because of its reputation for teaching and on the recommendation of former students. Now I am here I can honestly say that I enjoy coming to university and would recommend both Edge Hill and my course.
The course would suit people who are considering going into teaching but are not totally sure and want to gain a wide range of other learning opportunities. I’ve been really surprised by the amount of studying we have done outside of the classroom and enjoyed the multi-agency module which introduced us to people working in other settings.
I’m sure that I want to go into teaching and know that the modules on teaching strategies, session planning, children’s learning styles and mental health will be really beneficial when I get my own class. The teaching environment here is really friendly and you learn in small, supportive groups. There’s a lot of work but it’s manageable, especially with the encouragement of your tutors who are approachable and easy to talk to.
I also know that I want to be a language specialist, so being able to learn Mandarin while I’m at Edge Hill has been great. I’ll be visiting China later this year, also through the University, which will be another big bonus.
My placements have really contrasted and given me an interesting perspective on the spectrum of future teaching opportunities. One was in an inner city school while the other was a private school, so together they’ve opened my eyes to working with children with very differing needs. I’m sure the links I’ve made during my placements will also help me find work in future.”
