Jack Jones

BA (Hons) Dance

Working with choreographers has helped me to excel and I believe that if I train hard I’ll be able to become a professional dancer.

“It was during my audition for this course that I decided I had to come to Edge Hill University. I was struggling with part of the piece when one of the tutors came over to help me. It was exactly what I needed and it is this kind of support that we still get from our tutors. As well as this the campus is amazing, with some of the best facilities I’ve seen at a university.

The tutors are so supportive that they don’t just teach a class, they push you to achieve your specific potential. You get individual feedback and are encouraged to reflect and improve. This means that you are pushed to your limits all the time – but not too far! They are also there for the emotional stuff and are like family to us.

The course gives you so many opportunities to work with people from the dance industry. Guest choreographers come in to teach us and we also have ‘intensives’ where we work with a professional choreographer for a week, making a piece that then tours. Working with them has helped me to excel and I believe that if I train hard I’ll be able to become a professional dancer.

I’m also a member of EdgeFWD, the university’s all-male dance company. We are really well known and highly rated in the dance world. I have gained so much from the experience and have made so many friends. We don’t just learn technical skills here, we are an ensemble who rely upon each other.

Whatever course you are thinking about doing I would highly recommend Edge Hill. Be brave, make friends, put yourself out there and have fun. It’s an amazing university.”
