“If you know what you want then grab it with both hands.”

Jack Halliday’s passion for technology led him to embark on a Computing degree at Edge Hill University, and after graduating with First Class Honours, he successfully secured a job with top technology firm Datel.

Jack said:

“As an Internal Recruitment Co-ordinator at Datel, my main role involves screening potential candidates’ CVs, and after choosing from a variety of applicants I conduct the initial interviews with them.

“The most enjoyable part of my role is meeting new people and having the opportunity to learn about their lives and careers. Another great experience is being able to deliver good news to successful candidates and helping them to settle into the company.

“During my time at Edge Hill, I worked in the University’s Careers Centre. Even though I have graduated, I still have plenty of chances to catch up with the team. I have also kept in touch with some of my former tutors who provide me with support and are willing to help me with anything I need.

“While studying, I had the opportunity to develop a project on learning analytics, in particular emerging technology for students (virtual learning). After graduation I submitted it to an international conference in Chicago, Illinois.

“My advice to current students is to be patient and to try not to put unnecessary pressure on yourself. For many, this is the start of a long career journey and life is unpredictable and in a constant state of change. If you don’t know what you want, then allow yourself the time to figure it out. Every job you take, success that you have or mistake that you make will be another step towards learning more about yourself and what you want from your career.”
