The graduate market is really competitive, so my advice is to take opportunities like this where you find them.
“My degree is in marketing but it was a pretty theoretical syllabus. As there is no substitute for work experience with a live client I chose to be part of the Agent Academy programme. I already have a marketing job lined up, but my new employer recognised the value of the programme and was happy for me to complete it before starting with them.
I was partially drawn to this programme as a way of bridging the gap between academia and the workplace. The in depth client contact, using skills I’ve developed during my degree, is invaluable. I was also impressed with Agent Academy’s reputation and the high employment rates for participants.
Putting my theoretical knowledge into practice has really changed my perspective on marketing strategy. For example, it is not until you work with a client that you understand why the company was created and its original purpose. This really alters how you think about the company. On a personal level, I’ve become much more confident, especially when talking to people.
This has also been a great opportunity to work as part of a team in a real life setting. Everyone wants to be here and is enthusiastic and willing to work and learn. The guest speakers we’ve met have also been great, and their development tips have really impacted on me. The way they all have such different stories but all developed into open, ambitious people who still hold to their values is fascinating. The opportunity to network and surround myself with people like this – who are ambitious and dedicated – was another reason for doing this programme.
The graduate market is really competitive, so my advice is to take opportunities like this where you find them. I don’t feel other programmes will not offer you the same opportunities to work with a live client and to network. It is really forward thinking.”
