BA (Hons) Creative Performance

If I were to design a course containing the things I want to learn then this course would be it – I love it here!

“My dance teacher recommended the BA (Hons) in Creative Performance to me as I wanted to do physical theatre. I came to audition and instantly fell in love, mainly because of the course itself.

I’ve found that not many universities offer physical theatre plus puppetry, dance, masks, multimedia, aerial work and circus skills. If I were to design a course containing the things I want to learn then this course would be it – I love it here!

I was used to being given work to perform but here we learn to be creative as well. We are encouraged to be both the performer and the designer and to really explore our creativity. Now I can both devise my own pieces and challenge other people’s ideas.

There is also the opportunity to collaborate, so if you want to create a piece involving a musician, an actor and a dancer you can – there are people in the department who will help you and everyone is really supportive.

The facilities on campus are excellent too, with proper studios to work in which really makes a difference. The Rose Theatre shows a lot of ‘untraditional’ theatre which has really influenced my work and helped me to become a more diverse performer.

My favourite aspect so far has been the skills demonstration during the first semester. Although the task was demanding, I was really pleased with my piece which included masks, music, mime and dance. If you choose to come here – and I tell all my friends that they should – you need to be open to challenging yourself.”
