“A lot of energy, thought and funding must have gone into creating the performing arts space here at Edge Hill University. Along with the beautiful campus, the range of study options and recommendations from friends convinced me that the BA (Hons) in Drama was the course for me.
There is a vibrant energy in the performing arts department which makes it an enjoyable environment in which to learn. Students motivate each other and bring together different styles and experiences that creates something fantastic. Everyone is really dedicated to the process and so the group thrives and learns.
Lecturers are very enthusiastic about their specialisms which rubs off on you and makes you passionate about the course. They want you to be individual and unique and so encourage you to explore the areas that interest you, making the course very personalised in that respect.
The wide range of options available adds to this and allows you to develop lots of strands to your portfolio of skills. Exploring the styles, forms and the work of different practitioners has been a big source of creativity for me and I have reflected this in my workshops and performances. In particular, I’ve really enjoyed studying commedia dell’arte.
There has been more theory on the course than I expected but that gives you a good understanding of the subject and helps with performances and essays. I’d advise anyone coming here to do some reading on the theory and practitioners in advance. This will give you a huge confidence boost, especially during those first few lectures.
The course is definitely hard work but it is a real opportunity to be able to explore your own interests. The collective energy here makes it fun and entertaining – you just need to be yourself and be prepared to fully immerse yourself in the subject.”
