As I approach the end of the course I’m glad to say that I’ve secured my first teaching post in an 11–16 school, so I’m really looking forward to starting as a newly qualified teacher.

“I‘ve always had a love for mathematics and chose to study it at degree level because I knew it would open many doors for me.  I decided I wanted to teach as not only would it give me the chance to help young people become successful, but it is also career where every day would be different and present a variety of positive challenges.

I have really enjoyed the sessions delivered at Edge Hill to enhance my knowledge of teaching, as well as the two placements I have undertaken in schools.

The placements have been invaluable in providing direct experience in a school environment and it has been really beneficial to work with your own partnership trainer in the school who is there to help and support you in your development.

At first your teaching hours are kept quite low, so that you can learn all about planning lessons, but when you move onto your second placement your teaching hours increase and move ever closer to those of a qualified teacher.

I have loved every single day that I have been in a school and teaching, particularly because it has provided me with experience of working with a number of classes of varying ages and ability, including being assigned my own form group.

As I approach the end of the course I’m glad to say that I’ve secured my first teaching post in an 11–16 school, so I’m really looking forward to starting as a newly qualified teacher.”
