“I felt at home at Edge Hill as soon as I arrived for my audition. There was a good atmosphere and people were really helpful. The thing that really impressed me though, was the essay we had to write on why we wanted to come here. It made me think about whether I was ready for this course and where I want to go with it. That impressed me – other universities I visited seemed a lot less thorough in their selection processes.
I have a background in dance and so those classes are my favourites. However, I’ve also loved the classes on devising, making props, circus skills, working with shadows and multimedia. You experience a lot of different types of performance and have the opportunity to learn new skills, which is really important to me.
The students in my group come from a range of backgrounds – dance, drama, music and design – and we work well together, helping each other when we need it. I’ve also enjoyed working with students from other courses. Everyone brings something to the table and we all learn a lot.
Tutors make sessions fun and they are there for you if you need help. For example, if you are in the middle of rehearsing and need advice then your tutor will come and look at your work. They are always there when you need them.
My advice for anyone coming here is to do some reading beforehand and find out about the theoretical side of performance. This course is very practical, but you will have head start if you understand the background to what you are doing.”
