Overall, the best thing about this course is the expert knowledge of the tutors. Their enthusiasm is both motivating and inspiring.

“I’d heard about Edge Hill’s excellent reputation for teacher training so when a head teacher told me how they valued applications from Edge Hill graduates that really made my mind up. When looking at the structure of the course the balance between time spent in university and the time out on placements also helped me to decide on this PGCE.

I wanted to enter teaching because I have always enjoyed spending time with children and through my previous role as an operations manager, where I was in charge of training new staff, I knew how much I enjoyed teaching. Spending time volunteering at a primary school also confirmed that teaching is definitely for me.

During my PGCE, I have undertaken placements in local primary schools, which have given me a great range of experiences. I have also had placements in a pre-school, a special school, and in the mathematics department of a high school, which I arranged myself to further my specialist knowledge within this subject.

A real advantage of this course is that it allows you to spend ten additional placement days gaining further experience in an area that really interests you.

I have found the placements to be invaluable. At first I found the smallest things made me nervous; even taking the register, but soon your confidence increases and you gain the genuine experience of being a teacher, enabling you to participate in all aspects of school life.

Overall, the best thing about this course is the expert knowledge of the tutors. Their enthusiasm is both motivating and inspiring, and the support they give builds your desire to become an outstanding teacher.

I now can’t wait for September, when I will start my first job as a Year 3 teacher at a local primary school.”
