“The highlight of my course was the five months I spent at the University of Roskilde in Denmark as part of the Erasmus Project.

“When I was deciding on a degree to study at university I wasn’t sure of exactly what I wanted to do after graduation, but knew I wanted a career that would involve working with children.

My college tutor recommended the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood studies as it provides a lot of different options, while also allowing you to specialise in the areas that interest you. It has definitely been the right choice.

An enjoyable aspect of my studies has been the visits that we have undertaken as part of the course. This has included trips to London, Amsterdam and Budapest. In Amsterdam we met a prostitute and got to see behind-the-scenes at a nursery, while in Budapest we visited an orphanage and a centre which supports people who have cerebral palsy.

It was all really interesting and you certainly learn about other people’s cultures and backgrounds, which was of great value and is something that I would definitely recommend.

The highlight of my course though was the five months I spent at the University of Roskilde in Denmark as part of the Erasmus Project. I didn’t want to come home!

I was part of a group of 21 students from around the world, all living and studying together. At the university we focused on aesthetic subjects such as drama and art, and then took our new skills into settings with small groups of children. There was also the opportunity to do some teaching. I got so much from the experience

While there was a lot of support to help me settle in, including my Edge Hill tutor being in contact to check I was ok, I had to find my own way with things like food and currency. As a result I’ve become a lot more confident and independent.

While I have been away several times I have also loved being on campus. From the moment I arrived here Edge Hill has felt like home. It’s like a town in itself with a sense of community. People feel comfortable here. It has always felt just right.”
