I had a great experience at Edge Hill. It gave me lots of confidence, helped me find myself and opened doors to careers I might never have thought about. It’s also given me a brilliant group of friends that I still see all the time.

“I wanted to work in Early Years so I initially considered a teaching qualification. I wasn’t 100% sure though, so I opted for a Social Sciences degree instead as I thought it would give me a good foundation if I wanted to go into teaching later.

“The course really opened my eyes to the big concepts both in education and society as a whole. It helped me see the world in a new way and showed me that there aren’t really any rights or wrongs, just different perspectives. This has helped me in my professional life as dealing with parents and colleagues often requires you to understand opposing points of view.

“The best thing about the department is the staff. Everyone is open and friendly and, even though they all have their own research and teaching to do, they are always available to help if you need it.

“Since graduating I’ve secured a job at a nursery in Ormskirk and I still volunteer at the local youth club where I did my second year placement. Taking a Social Sciences degree at Edge Hill was definitely the right choice for me – I think I’ve gained a much broader outlook than if I’d gone down the teaching route.”
