PGCE Secondary Music (Age Phase 11-16) with QTS

The course really does prepare you well and I felt confident the first time I stood up to teach a class due to the amount of training I’d had beforehand.

“I’ve always had an interest in music and working with young children and as my degree was music-based I felt that studying a PGCE in the subject would allow me to combine my two interests.

I was also interested in teaching in a college, so asked my course tutor if I could be placed in a school offering A Level Music Technology to gain some much needed experience alongside the typical 11-16 age range. I felt this could open up some additional job opportunities for me.

The course has been really good, but I didn’t think it would be this much work! You have to be really organised to balance your time between assignments, teaching and planning. You need to set yourself targets to get work completed but it’s definitely worth it in the end.

I feel I’ve learnt a lot in terms of strategies for teaching, such as behaviour management, lesson activities and delivery, which are all things I’d never thought about before. I also liked the fact that that I could complete an enhancement course which made me aware of the level of information you should teach to children and recapped areas of music I hadn’t touched on for a few years.

The course really does prepare you well and I felt confident the first time I stood up to teach a class due to the amount of training I’d had beforehand.”
