There are so many opportunities here, you just need lots of enthusiasm and to throw yourself into everything to get the most from the experience.

“It might sound strange but I was really impressed by my audition for this course. The process was fun, communal and positive and the lecturers were welcoming. I just knew I wanted to study here.

The course has exceeded my expectations. You are encouraged to explore different subjects without the fear of failure, which makes this course ideal for people who aren’t sure what they want to do later. I’ve found that I’m really interested in using drama in museums, so much so that I’ve written a manifesto on the subject and want to pursue it once I graduate. I’ve also loved technical theatre and being given the opportunity to direct performances. You are given the breathing space to focus on your interests.

I also like the fact that the course keeps evolving, with new professional companies participating in each year of the degree and new technologies being introduced. The university really doesn’t sit still.

We are taught by excellent lecturers who are active in the industry and always supportive and encouraging. Some rehearsal sessions have handled really challenging subjects and you get to really know your tutors from spending hours together exploring these difficult topics together.

It is the same with the other students. Drama is one of those subjects where the group becomes a family by working closely together and helping each other on everything from essays to dissertations. We operate a peer mentoring system where older students support younger ones, which helps develop positive relationships across all of the year groups.

There is also a lot of opportunity provided by the student performing arts companies and societies. You can take part under your own steam and work with professional companies to develop as a practitioner. There are so many opportunities here, you just need lots of enthusiasm and to throw yourself into everything to get the most from the experience.”
