I have always been deeply passionate about computer science, and pursuing a degree in this field seemed like the natural progression to further develop my knowledge and skills. Edge Hill University stood out to me due to its exceptional campus and cutting-edge Tech Hub, which includes state-of-the-art facilities such as 3D printing and the immersive CAVE. These advanced resources were key factors in my decision to choose Edge Hill.

One of the aspects I appreciate most about my degree is the Student Staff Consultative Forum (SSCF). As a course representative, I’ve had the opportunity to gather feedback from my peers and participate in meetings where I can present these insights. The course leaders have been highly receptive to this feedback, and I’ve seen them implement changes that reflect the needs of students. This level of engagement has fostered a sense of ownership and collaboration within the course.

My lecturers have been incredibly supportive, particularly in the area of extracurricular activities. In my second year, I was given the opportunity to organize and lead a beginner-level electronics workshop and coordinate a mini chess tournament. These experiences not only allowed me to engage with fellow students but also enhanced my leadership and organizational skills.

The degree has provided me with invaluable opportunities, particularly through the inclusion of a placement year. With guidance from my tutors, I applied for placement opportunities and was fortunate enough to secure a position at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). This placement has been an outstanding experience, providing practical industry exposure that has significantly enriched my academic journey. This has provided me with essential industry experience, equipping me with insights that will set me apart in the competitive job market. Additionally, the course has emphasized ethical practice and professional standards, which I’ve been able to apply directly during my placement year, further enhancing my employability.

There are many aspects of Edge Hill that I enjoy, but one of the highlights is the picturesque campus, especially during the summer months. Of course, I can’t forget to mention the campus cat!  Upon graduation, I aspire to establish my own digital consulting business, leveraging the skills and knowledge I’ve gained during my degree, extracurricular activities and placement year.

I would highly recommend taking full advantage of the facilities and resources available at Edge Hill. This includes applying for scholarships and considering the placement year, as it offers invaluable practical experience that can significantly enhance your career prospects.

Edge Hill has been extremely supportive throughout my degree. I was awarded the Excellence Scholarship, as well as a placement bursary, both of which have allowed me to pursue my extracurricular interests in 3D printing, electronics design, and robotics.
