Biography

Dr Olutoyin A. Elizabeth Okeya is a Registered Adult Nurse and a Senior Lecturer on Nurse Education within the School of Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health  in the Faculty of Health Social Care and Medicine at Edge Hill University. She is on BSc and MSc Pre-Registration Nursing Programme. In 2015 Elizabeth was awarded a EdD Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD) by Liverpool John Moores University. Her doctorate thesis explored Knowledge of Diabetes Education Programmes and Support Systems on Type 2 Diabetes Self-Management among Black Africans in Liverpool. Elizabeth has presented at Diabetes UK conference. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  She is a member of the University Research Ethics Committee. Elizabeth has been a reviewer on two academic journals, Health Education Journal and Journal of Research in Nursing. Elizabeth has several online journal publications.

Research Interests

Elizabeth’s research interests includes: Exploring the perception of pre-registration nursing minority ethnic students with regards to attainment levels at a north-west England higher education institution (HEI). Her EdD focused on Knowledge of Diabetes Education Programmes and Support Systems on Type 2 Diabetes Self-Management among Black Africans in Liverpool; Perceptions of Student Nurses about Transcultural Nursing.

Teaching

Elizabeth is on BSc and MSc Pre-Registration Nursing programmes. She is the Online Examinations lead for MSc Nursing (2018) programme. Elizabeth is the operational lead for Faculty of Health student nurses’ peer mentoring scheme.
