BSc (Hons) Midwifery
The fantastic lecturers and their amazing stories, gained from years of experience in midwifery, has been the best part of the degree for me."
I first became interested in midwifery and childbirth when thinking about my own future. I felt that there was so much mystery and fear surrounding childbearing that I wanted to know more. After becoming fascinated with the subject, I was set on pursuing a career in midwifery.
When I first approached Edge Hill, I was met with a very encouraging and positive response which really spurred me on to apply. The subsequent ‘offer-holder’ day was fantastic and gave me a feeling of readiness to dive back into student life, especially as I’m the first in my family to go to university.
Resilience, empathy and patience. These are three key skills I’ve developed during my degree. Gaining insight into the physiology of the creation of life is fascinating – women are amazing.
The most memorable aspect of the degree and of midwifery for me is every single ‘thank you’ I’ve heard from someone I’ve cared for.
I aim to continue to gain as much experience as possible and continue to provide women and babies with excellent care. The fantastic lecturers and their amazing stories, gained from years of experience in midwifery, has been the best part of the degree for me.
Never stop asking questions. Always ask for help when you need it. This would be my advice to any prospective students. Be prepared to work hard, and to experience the most rewarding outcome – welcoming new life into the world.
