The best thing about Edge Hill University in my opinion is the community feel. Being a campus university, you feel very connected and welcomed

Growing up, I always had an interest in becoming a teacher. I had ideas about other jobs, and even tried some that I didn’t enjoy. After considering my options, I decided to go with what I felt most passionate about. Throughout school I always loved maths, and had great maths teachers, which led me to decide teaching maths would be a great career for me.

Edge Hill is renowned for its teacher training courses and facilities. I wanted to study at a campus university where I was not too far from home, but also had a homely environment to live whilst studying.

The top skills I have developed during my degree are time management (including organisational skills), professionalism and communication skills.

The most memorable moment of my degree was when we hosted a school visit and planned a day of activities to lead as trainee teachers. We planned a maths orienteering activity and were given full independence to carry out the activities.

My favourite thing about my degree subject is the variety of modules. Specifically, it is an integrated maths and teaching degree meaning I have the opportunity to learn degree level mathematics alongside training to be a teacher.

The best thing about Edge Hill University in my opinion is the community feel. Being a campus university, you feel very connected and welcomed. My favourite place on campus is the lake outside the Faculty of Education.

When I graduate, I am hoping to get a job as a secondary school maths teacher and complete my ECT years. I would also like to do a Masters in the coming years.

Edge Hill have supported me in many ways during my degree. This includes regular meetings with my personal tutor, additional sessions to provide help on aspects of my degree such as academic writing and also support from student services and my tutors when facing personal problems.

My advice to anyone studying my course would be to enjoy it! Manage your time well to give maximum effort to your degree, whilst also enjoying the social aspect of university.
