Profile
Biography
I am currently programme lead for Non-Medical Prescribing at Edge Hill University. In addition, as a Senior Lecturer I teach across the medical school including teaching on the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice, where I am module lead for HEA4265 (Context of Advanced Practice) and teaching undergraduate medical students. I also contribute to the education of undergraduate nurses and paramedics.
I joined Edge Hill University in 2019 after a long (40 years) and successful career in the NHS where I was a Nurse Consultant (Diabetes) with both a clinical and managerial role. My background as a senior NHS clinician and an independent nurse prescriber has given me the clinical knowledge and skills required for my current role. Prior to joining Edge Hill as a permanent member of staff I was a visiting lecturer teaching on a variety of undergraduate and post graduate programmes including non-medical prescribing.
My research interests include type 1 diabetes and non-medical prescribing. I have over 90 publications, mostly in peer reviewed journals and have presented my work at Diabetes UK national conferences. I am currently on the editorial board for the Journal of Diabetes Nursing. My doctoral thesis explored the impact of nurse led intervention on glycaemic control and vascular risk factors in people with type 1 diabetes.
