Martin is a Senior Lecturer of Education at Edge Hill University. Alongside lecturing, he holds the additional responsibilities at the University, including Level 5 Leader for Part-Time BA (Hons) Education, Module Leader for Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Computing and a Module Leader for Academic and Professional Development on BA (Hons) Education. Martin is also a recognised British Computing Society Master Teacher, Google Certified Educator, Certified Microsoft Trainer/Educator and has been an Examiner and Moderator for a leading GCSE/A Level exam board over several years. He is currently an Examiner for the Educational Leadership MBA at Anglia Ruskin University and the PGDE (QTS) at Bath Spa University. 

Martin holds a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc Hons) in Information Communications and German and a Master of Science degree (MSc) in Leadership and Management. He is a qualified teacher (QTS) and has achieved both the Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Education (PGCE) and the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE) from Edge Hill University. Martin is also a qualified headteacher having achieved the National Professional Qualification in Headship (NPQH) from Middlesex University, which has been accredited by the Department for Education (DfE). He is also a certified and experienced Department for Education (DfE) Pupil Premium Reviewer for primary and secondary schools, alongside being a qualified Designated Senior Safeguarding Lead (DSL), as awarded by Nottingham City Council.

Martin is passionately committed to educational improvement, policy and reform and strives for a fair, consistent and worthwhile learning journey for every child. As part of completing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, he aims to create meaningful change throughout the education system at a whole system level to influence policy. As part of his NPQH, Martin created strategic school improvement plans for assessment and enhanced leadership capacity. 

Furthermore, Martin has held several positions within a range of schools. More recently, as a senior leader, serving as Assistant Headteacher in charge of Data and Assessment at a school in Nottingham City. He also has experience in creating whole school timetables using Nova-T. Furthermore, he had many other responsibilities, including the transition from KS2 to KS3 and strategic oversight of Year 7 and Year 8, whilst line managing several departments.

Alongside this, Martin also has a passion for languages and linguistics. He is fascinated by language acquisition and the various language families of the world. Speaking fluent German and having previously worked in multiple roles as an interpreter and translator for German and international airlines/airports. He is particularly interested in German literature and the correlation between language learning and learning to program. His research for the German language includes reunification implications and dialects throughout Germany, in particular the variations of Niederdeutsch and Hochdeutsch.
