Biography

Julie has over 27 years experience of working in the NHS before entering higher education.  

Following training at the University of Chester, Julie worked in an orthopedic trauma ward for 7 years before moving to a role in the postoperative recovery room remaining for a total of 14 yrs. During these posts, Julie developed a passion for supporting students and qualified as an assessor in nurse training to further develop.

Building on her passion for teaching and supporting all learners, Julie moved into a practice facilitation role within the Trust before joining edge hill University as a practice education lecturer before progressing to a full-time role as a lecturer in nurse education.  

Research Interests

Student experience in placements within the prison setting

Provision of clinical supervision for students’ nurses

Peer mentoring and support

Development of simulation to support practice

The transition from the realm of practice to academe within nursing

Teaching

Currently, Julie teaches on the Master’s in Nursing and Social Work program (MNSW),  focusing on preparation for practice area the development of the integrated practitioner.

Julie has supported teaching in the following areas.

Mentorship in professional practice across multiple professions

Prep for practice (BSc nursing and MNSW)
