Helena Gadsby
BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS
I’ve had the opportunity to take on a number of placements which have given me hands-on experience of teaching in a real-life setting.
My favourite thing about my course is the opportunities that I’ve had. I’ve been a nursery nurse for over 13 years and this degree is helping towards my next chapter. I’ve gone from the Early Years Foundation Stage to the National Curriculum which is completely different.
I’ve had the opportunity to take on a number of placements which have given me hands-on experience of teaching in a real-life setting. And this degree shows that you’re never too old to fulfil a dream. I’ve been lucky enough to make some amazing friends and have a fantastic support network of the staff.
Once I graduate, I want to use what I’ve learnt to become a primary school teacher. As well as a PSHE lead.
As part of my experience at Edge Hill, I’ve become a Reading for Pleasure (RfP) and EDI Ambassador. As an RfP, I support other student teachers to widen their knowledge of children’s texts. And to develop RfP pedagogy in practice during school placements. Both of my roles allow me to help and support other students.
The support I’ve received from the University has been fantastic. The staff are so understanding. And they go above and beyond with their support.
