Biography
Teaching:
Helen is a teacher educator. She teaches primary science and professional studies on undergraduate and postgraduate primary ITE courses. Helen is currently Primary Science Subject Lead. She is a Link Tutor for both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees on professional practice.
History:
Before entering the teaching profession, Helen completed a MSci (Hons) degree in Earth Sciences at Durham University. She completed a PGCE in KS2/3 Science at The University of Cambridge before going on to work in a variety of roles teaching in primary schools including as a science subject leader, key stage leader and SLT. Helen became a lead practitioner and has also taught A level at a sixth form college. Prior to working in HE, Helen has led science CPD for teachers within and across schools. Helen has a passion for science teaching and learning and enjoys sharing this with trainee teachers.
Research Interests
Helen is interested in research-informed teaching in ITE, particularly in relation to supporting trainee and early career teachers in their provision of high-quality science education across the primary phase.
Helen is part of the Education for Social Justice Network and is committed to widening participation and access to ITE courses. Helen has a research interest in the experiences of part time students on ITE degree courses.
Teaching
Helen teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate core and specialist science modules. In addition, Helen contributes to the delivery of professional studies.
