Biography

Chris Hughes is a member of the team within the Department of Sport and Physical Activity that provides undergraduate degrees in sports development, management and coaching.

Chris joined Edge Hill University in 2012 before achieving a PhD from Leeds Beckett University in 2016.

Research Interests

Chris’ research takes sport, leisure and the outdoors as examples to think about philosophical questions pertaining to the philosophy of perception, the senses, phenomenology and aesthetics.

His PhD thesis that draws upon phenomenology and the philosophy of the senses is providing the basis for current writing concerning aesthetics and the haptic senses. Meanwhile, developing areas of research inquiry include the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein and the philosophical questions surrounding virtual reality.

Teaching

Chris teaches a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules concerning critical thinking, research methods skills and dissertation writing. Chris also teaches on the MSc Sport, Physical Activity and Mental Health.
