Dr Anthony Maher

Biography

Dr Anthony Maher is a Reader in Physical Education and Children’s Physical Activity. He is a member of Department of Sport and Physical Activity’s Research Committee and conveyor of the Pedagogy, Professional Development and Politics in Physical Education and Sport research group. Previously, Anthony was Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for Physical Education at Leeds Beckett University. Anthony has also held the positions of Lecturer in Sport Studies at University of Central Lancashire, and Associate Lecturer in Sport Studies at Edge Hill University.

Research Interests

Anthony’s research, consultancy and teaching interests relate mainly to diversity, equity and inclusion in physical education; teacher education; special education; disability sport and the body. Much of his research draws on British disability studies and sociological theory, especially the work of Antonio Gramsci.
