Biography

I completed my undergraduate studies and foundation training in Edinburgh before moving to London for core medical training and then to Yorkshire to complete specialist training in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine.

During my medical training I developed a passion for teaching medical students and colleagues and in 2015/16 took 12 months out of programme to work as a Clinical Medical Education Fellow at Liverpool Medical School where I developed a range of teaching and assessment skills. 

I completed my consultant training in 2017 and took up a full time post in Infectious Diseases in Yorkshire which included responsibilities for managing Physician Associate student placements in the Trust. During this time I completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Education.

In 2019 I moved to Lancashire to take up my current post as Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill Medical School. My roles include clinical lead for assessment, module lead for Translation into Practice Module on the Physician Associate Masters degree, theme co-lead for the Diagnosis and Medical Management theme in the MBChB degree and personal academic tutor (PAT).

In addition to my position at Edge Hill, I have a substantive part-time post as a Consultant in Acute Medicine at Wigan Infirmary. This role include ad-hoc teaching and being Clinical Supervisor to non-training junior doctors, most of whom are untaking their first post in the NHS. 

 

Research Interests

My masters dissertation was based on a piece of empirical qualitative research into the experiences of Physician Associate students during clinical placement. I am at present exploring ways to develop my research interests further.  

Teaching

My current teaching and assessment responsibilities include:

  • Clinical skills 
  • History taking workshops
  • Simulation
  • Theory of clinical medicine, diagnosis, clinical reasoning and management of clinical conditions
  • Writing and standard setting exam questions in single best answer (SBA) and short answer (SAQ) format. 
  • Writing and organising objective structed clinical examination (OSCEs) and developing Medical School policies relating to OSCE content and delivery.
