BSc (Hons) Web Design & Development

BSc (Hons) Web Design & Development alumni student, Daniel Bracey

My favourite thing about my course is that it’s mostly hands-on and code-based practical tasks, which allows me to dive into programming to solve the task at hand.

I have a passion for problem solving and building solutions. This inspired me to study Web Design & Development so I can further my skills to allow me to implement increasingly technical solutions. By choosing a specific subject area, I can show employers that I am dedicated to furthering my subject knowledge, producing high quality applications that benefit the wider community.

I chose Edge Hill due to the modules the course offered that aligned with my existing knowledge and the challenges it would present to me to solve. Although the campus is six hours away from home, the campus is beautiful as well as providing great photo opportunities.

My favourite thing about my course is that it’s mostly hands-on and code-based practical tasks, which allows me to dive into programming to solve the task at hand. Creating software applications and building an online community for all students in the department to enjoy and share ideas on has been the most memorable moment so far.

I was awarded a scholarship for building software that has benefitted the wider student community. Such software has included the current location of the Edge Link bus to Discord users and providing live quizzing software for the members of the Quiz & Party Game Society. Using Discord, I also built a community for all Computer Science department students, allowing them to come together to share ideas and collaborate on projects outside of assignments. By being awarded this scholarship means that I know my solutions are worth something to the wider student community and I am pleased to continue building solutions for the benefit of all.

You will do well on this course if you’re not settled with “OK, that works.” You should always be asking why and how the software or solution can be improved. I would advise people to have a passion for software development, and a curious mind. Everyone who takes this course is capable of building great things if their mind is put to the task.
