Ryan Leder who won the prize in 2017

The second Dame Janet Suzman Scriptwriting Prize has been awarded to Beth Beevers, a student on MA Making Performance, for her play Every Voice.

The Dame Janet Suzman Student Playwriting Prize aims to recognise, nurture and develop students’ talents writing for the stage.

Submissions had to be performable by four actors or fewer within a 45-60 minute duration.

The Prize was open to Edge Hill University students on Creative Writing and Performing Arts students.

Beth will receive £1,000 and support in developing the script further including a reading by professional actors. The judges commented:

“We had a large number of entrants this year to the prize, but Beth’s stood out because of the story she was telling – it had a strong voice and something to say about the world we live in today, as all good theatre should.”

Beth will follow in the footsteps of Ryan Leder who won the first prize in 2017 for his play Numbered Days. Read more here
