An award-winning theatre company featuring Edge Hill alumni will showcase their new production at one of the world’s biggest performing arts festivals.
Naughty Corner Productions were selected from over 1,000 applications to perform Raves “R” Us at Glastonbury in a late-night slot on Sunday 30 June, the final day of the festival which sold out its 135,000-ticket allocation in half-an-hour last October.
Written and directed by Drama alumni Mike Dickinson, and Adam Nicholls, Raves “R” Us is the eighth show by Naughty Corner Productions, promising to deliver a performance interspersed with audience interaction on the Sensation Seekers Stage, a platform for comedy, music and street theatre.
Inspired by a true story, it follows Charlie and his four mates, recently made redundant by retailer Toy “R” Us, who decide to escape their troubles by planning ‘the biggest rave the world has ever seen’ – in their abandoned former warehouse.
Following their appearance at Worthy Farm, a four-day run has been lined up at Liverpool’s Hope Street Theatre from 17-20 July.
Two other Edge Hill alumni, Sam Brown and Thomas Heyes, are amongst the cast which also includes Liam Powell-Berry, Sam Walton and Laura Connolly.
“It still hasn’t settled in that we’ll be playing the most famous festival in the world”, proclaimed Mike, who was instrumental in successfully pitching the show to the festival’s Head of Theatre and Circus, Haggis McLeod, following lengthy negotiations.
“It feels like a milestone for the company and like five years of hard work is starting to pay off.”
