Getting inside the outdoor arts industry with Walk the Plank

Outside Edge

Walk The Plank (WTP) is one of the UK’s leading outdoor arts organisations, with more than two decades’ experience of producing high-quality, internationally-significant events that are seen by millions of people across the globe.

A long-term partnership between WTP and Edge Hill University included the development of Sowing Seeds, a live processional piece at Burscough community farm, which encompassed mass movement, music and puppetry. Edge Hill students were trained in outdoor/participation arts practice by experienced lead artists from WTP , while graduate mentees worked in key directorial and production roles. The partnership with WTP aims to enhance Edge Hill’s capacity to prepare graduates for employment and provide mutually beneficial activities that serve students’ needs as well as those of the outdoor arts sector.

“We don’t have enough properly prepared graduates and emerging artists to service all our projects, so developing a partnership with Edge Hill University is also engaging with the higher education sector as part of long-term sustainability strategy.”
