Leading international vocalist Denosh Bennett recently visited Edge Hill University to present a masterclass to our Musical Theatre students wishing to take their performance to the next level.
Denosh has worked as a backing vocalist with the likes of Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Drake, Demi Lovato, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey, and has performed alongside platinum hit makers including P Diddy, Chris Brown and Jay z, as well as appearing at major music venues across the globe.
More recently she performed on Broadway in Hairspray. She has a passion for sharing her experience and knowledge with singers who wish to improve their stage presence and performance skills.
She said: “In today’s entertainment industry, it’s important to be versatile and to be a well-rounded performer, what they call a “triple-threat”.
“You need to be able to leverage your skills to keep you working and growing as an artist. It’s not enough to just do one thing anymore. you have to sing, dance, act, write, play, create etc.
“You have to be good a few things, as my mentor would call me a “Swiss Army Knife” , so when one door closes, you can open another one.”
Edge Hill University hosted the masterclass to Musical Theatre students to help improve their employability status with Denosh providing an insight into the industry and approach in America.
Clare Chandler, Musical Theatre Tutor at Edge Hill University said: “The masterclass explored performance technique and etiquette for Musical Theatre, with Denosh teaching repertoire from the current Broadway smash Hamilton and sharing stories of her experiences working professionally in a variety of contexts, the importance of training and knowing your own worth.”
