Staff and students at Edge Hill University have been shortlisted for four prestigious Student Nursing Times awards.

Rowan Chalmers, who has been supported by personal tutor Moira Steggles, is in the running for Student Learning Disabilities Nurse of the Year and Maggi Bradley is up for the Practice Supervisor of the Year award.

The University has also won nominations in the Partnership of the Year category for two projects:

  • Teaching the lived experience, carried out by the Edge Hill Service User and Carer Group, led by Toni Bewley and Sue Waterson;
  • And highlighting the importance of learning disability specialist students in primary care in partnership with Sefton Training Hub, led by Denise Dutton, Emma Galley and Andrew Jopson with the support of the wider nursing Lecturers in Practice Learning team.

Edge Hill’s School of Nursing and Midwifery also contributes to the Outreach Skills Clinic for Assessment project with the University of Chester and the Annexe Collaborative which has been shortlisted in the Teaching Innovation of the Year category.

Professor Jacqueline Leigh, Director of Nursing and Midwifery Education, said: “Our staff consistently go the extra mile to ensure our students receive the best education and training while studying at Edge Hill and our students continue to impress us with their dedication and hard work.

“I am so proud of all the nominees and the wider team. To be recognised by the Student Nursing Times Awards is a just reward for their commitment to the nursing profession.”

The Student Nursing Times Awards celebrate the best of the next generation of nurses and their educators, providing the opportunity to congratulate lecturers, practice supervisors, universities, trusts and private organisations which are going above and beyond to support student nurses.

The winners will be announced at a live ceremony in London on Friday 28 April.

Edge Hill University’s Faculty of Health, Social Care & Medicine is one of the largest providers of health, social care and medicine education in the North West of England and home to its Medical School.

The Faculty delivers a wide range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels delivered across the main Ormskirk campus and bases at St James’ Manchester, Aintree University Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
