Joshua Styles

BSc (Hons) Ecology

BSc (Hons) Ecology student Joshua Styles in his role as a botanist

Plants are amazing! They are the fundamental basis of all life on Earth and have fascinated me since I was young, which made my studies at Edge Hill that bit more amazing. Through my work, every day throws up a new challenge and I absolutely love it.

Exploring my chosen field
Joshua secured placements at multiple wildlife trusts across the North West during his time at Edge Hill University. Despite being unsure of his ideal graduate career pathway, Joshua wanted to gain experience across a wide array of industry sectors and to apply knowledge and skills from his degree to uncover the possible career opportunities.

During his industry placements, Joshua’s involvement included working and developing projects to bring wildlife to its natural habitat, combatting the climate and nature emergencies and finding solutions to climate problems.

The experience provided Joshua with the practical and theoretical skills to uncover his love and passion for all forms of plant life. The skills and knowledge both from his degree and placements have helped Joshua secure his current job as a Plant Biologist at Atkins, where he studies all forms of plants in their natural environments.

Joshua secured his dream role with Atkins, becoming one of the UK’s most talented botanists.

“Joshua is now working on nationally important infrastructure schemes as a Principal Ecologist with Atkins.”
