Your induction

Between finding your way around campus, making new friends and settling into a new place, there’s lots to take on board. But don’t worry. We’re here to help you every step of the way.

Enrol on your course

First things first, you need to make sure that you’ve fully enrolled onto your course. Enrolment is the process by which you confirm your personal details and agree to the University’s terms and conditions. This is different to the admissions process and you won’t receive your student loan until you’ve fully enrolled. You also won’t be able to get your Unicard, which acts as your student ID and allows you to access facilities across campus.

If you’re not sure how to complete enrolment, find out more details on the enrolment pages.

Check in with your Personal Tutor

Every Edge Hill student has a Personal Tutor, who’s there to help you get the most out of university. You’ll meet in a group and also individually two or three times a year, and they’re always available to discuss any personal or academic concerns you might have. You usually have the same Personal Tutor for the duration of your course.

Connect with Student Life

The EHU Campus Connectors are here to help you make the most of your time with us at Edge Hill University. Let them help you to feel a part of our community and find the events you want to be at!

Over the year the team will be hosting and promoting a variety of activities on and off campus such as football tournaments, film nights, talent shows, shopping trips and seasonal events. They can point you in the direction of anything and everything you’ll be interested in as well as offer friendly advice and support about student life. Visit the Student Life Portal to find out what’s on.

Get to know the Students’ Union

While much of your time at Edge Hill will be focused on studying, university is a place where you can develop all aspects of yourself. Whether that’s learning a new language, joining a society or sports club, or spending a year studying abroad, the SU’s Welcome Fair is the place to go to find out what’s on offer.

Keep an eye on the Students’ Union website for more information.

Explore your surroundings

Ormskirk campus

Did you know that Edge Hill’s Ormskirk campus is award-winning?  There’s plenty to explore including social areas with outdoor seating, lakeside walks, hidden gardens and a nature trail complete with outdoor exercise equipment. Ormskirk town centre boasts beautiful parks and a lively high street with shops, banks, cafes, bars and a market twice a week. And, when you sign up to Totum via the Students’ Union, you’ll get exclusive student discounts in local shops and restaurants.

St James’ campus

If you’re joining our St James’ campus, you’ll be immersed in the heart of the buzzing city centre of Manchester. With Oxford Road station just a stone’s throw away you’ll be well connected, but there’s lots of bars, shops and restaurants within walking distance and the famous Palace Theatre on the doorstep, too. Explore the Grade II listed building with all the modern facilities that you need for your course such as a clinical simulation suite, including a mock operating theatre, ambulance simulator and clinical skills stations. Grab a coffee from one of the local coffee shops and pop into the open plan library to prepare before your lecture.

Want to join our Sports Centre?

Edge Hill Sport is your very own on-site Sports Centre. But it’s not just your average gym. Try out our fitness suite, full-size swimming pool, and a wealth of classes from spin to yoga. If you prefer the great outdoors, you can take a run on our scenic fitness trail.

Faith and community

Our Faith and Community service is here to support students and staff of all faiths and none, helping to create a welcoming community on campus. Whether you face economic crisis, family and relationship problems, or simply wish to talk to us, our multi-faith chaplains offer a confidential and non-judgemental service from a spiritual perspective.

Find out more about our Faith and Community service.

Register with the local medical centre

If you are moving to Ormskirk to study, we strongly recommend that you register with a local GP service as soon as you can. It is not a good idea to leave it until you need to see a doctor as the registration process may delay your appointment.
