Diversity Access Programme

The Diversity Access Programme is specifically designed to support Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students in Year 12 of sixth form or first year of college who want to get a head start in their higher education journey.

The events and activities you participate in will provide you with information, advice and guidance regarding higher education and will offer you tailored support in choosing the right course and university for you. It aims to build your confidence in accessing the range of social and support services available at the University and provide you with an excellent experience to reference in your personal statement and interviews during the application process.

Student Life and Support at Edge Hill University

Along with your parents and supporters, you will visit our campus to discuss the student life and support opportunities that are available to you at Edge Hill. We’ll explore the 70+ societies that you can get involved with, student finance, scholarships and support funds, and you’ll have a tour of our award-winning campus facilities and accommodation. You’ll chat to current students and will have the chance to ask them your questions during a question-and-answer panel.

Into Ormskirk

Working in teams, after receiving your budget for the day, you’ll head into Ormskirk town centre to buy your ingredients in preparation for Edge Hill’s take on Come Dine with Me. Using our campus kitchens and with the support of our current nutrition students, you’ll produce a delicious dish which will be judged by current students from our multi-cultural and Islamic societies. There will be prizes for the best budgeting and most competent cooking.

Steps to Success

For the final event, we’ll offer you UCAS hints and tips as well as study skills that you can use in your final year of sixth form or college and beyond. Based on your subject interests, you’ll have the opportunity to explore our academic facilities such as the CAVE (Computer Augmented Virtual Experience), Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre and TV studios. Finally, we’ll celebrate your completion of the programme and discuss how you can use your experiences to successfully apply to university.
