A group counselling and therapy session. There are people sat in a circle talking to each other. Only their hands are in view.

Undergraduate Counselling and Psychotherapy

Listen, empathise and provide support that shapes lives. We’ve designed our counselling and psychotherapy degree for people who want to develop their knowledge and skills in the field of humanistic psychotherapy.

Learn how to work with individuals as well as developing the skills to work with groups. You will explore the social and political context of counselling and develop your understanding of counselling and mental health in the UK and abroad. Provide therapy sessions to real clients, taking your work to individual and group supervision. Whatever your ambition, you’ll be ready to make a difference in a variety of settings, from charities to schools and prisons to private healthcare.

We financially support your personal therapy in first year. We also financially support your external counselling supervision in second and third year. Personal therapy and counselling supervision will develop your reflective practice, helping you to work even more effectively with your clients.

Learning through experience is at the heart of our courses – we have an extensive network of placement providers giving our students plenty of placement opportunities.

100% of our counselling students are employed or in further study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes data released 2023 from 2020/21 graduates).

My favourite thing about my degree so far is understanding how mental illness can impact anyone, from any social class. Particularly how social and political influences can dictate outcomes.
