Creative writing

When it comes to enhancing employability through making the most of opportunities, some of us need a helping hand. Edge Hill’s Student Opportunity Fund (SOF) is designed to do just that. The SOF provides financial support to enable our students to take part in activities which enhance their employability, develop transferable skills, and enrich their student experience. All our undergraduates are entitled to apply for up to £2,000 to realise and take part in fantastic opportunities. That could be anything from assisting students to attend interviews, work experience placements and conferences, to helping a student get their critically acclaimed play on the stage. Or, indeed, opportunities to develop skills in game development projects and experiences reading poetry at the international University Camarade event.

The University Camarade is an initiative designed to encourage collaboration and innovation for young poets. The project allows them to expand their practise, knowledge and networks by pairing each student with another who studies within a different institution. The event provides a great platform and showcase for Creative Writing in the UK, as Dr James Byrne explains:

“The work that has been produced by the Camarade has always impressed me and there is nothing more pleasurable than seeing a work and a writer develop. Taking the students to London and seeing them on the stage, not just reading their own work, but collaborating with the crème de la crème of their peers – it’s one of the highlights of the year for me.”

The whole point of the SOF is to prevent our students missing out on these great career-enhancing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Experiences such as these can only improve our students, and if the only obstacle is a little money, we are here to help.
