History success

Based on the most recent National Student Survey results (2021), we are Top 10 in the UK for overall satisfaction in History. The results of the survey are based on student responses to questions about their satisfaction in areas such as the teaching, learning resources and opportunities provided on their course. Looking at the results at a regional level, this also means that we are 1st in the North West for overall satisfaction in History. In what has been a challenging time during the pandemic with adapting to new ways of teaching and learning, we are immensely proud of this result.

National Student Survey 2021

We have received some fantastic comments in the survey:

Assessments are varied so it’s not death by essays, and for the most part, they are clearly explained and fairly marked. I’ve been able to contact my lecturers with any and all concerns, and most reply immediately even at night and weekends which is not expected but greatly appreciated. The library facilities and the access to relevant archives and materials are mostly all provided free by the University which has been amazing for finding both primary and secondary sources for assignments. On the whole, I have really loved the course, the subject is interesting and the lecturers are amazing.”

History at Edge Hill gives you real-world experience and skills to inspire people in the present, whether that’s working on a gallery exhibition or designing digital history content.

Your lecturers use their specialist research on the history of racism, crime, politics, popular culture, and religion throughout the course. You will explore topics such as the Crusades, 19th century crime and punishment, fall of the British Empire, and civil rights in America. You won’t just learn about History though. You’ll have the opportunity to put your skills to work on a placement, and link what you’ve studied to current events. You’ll discover how your knowledge of history can help you contribute to solving issues we face today.

All this means that history at Edge Hill gives you the skills to change your life and the lives of people around you. You’ll come away with a broad understanding of the world, confident in your abilities and able to make the most of the opportunities that come your way. Past students have gone on to exciting careers as museum curators, teachers, radio broadcasters, and journalists.
