A life changing opportunity

“During the course I decided to do an industrial placement to get some experience and enhance my CV – I never imagined it would lead to a trip to Malawi to build a school and volunteer in an orphanage”, says Emma Hall.

“Through my studies I’d developed an interest in supply chain management, which was something I had no idea about before, so I was really pleased to get a placement with Johnson & Johnson in their supply chain department. As well as learning how a large organisation works, I was lucky enough to be one of 30 employees worldwide chosen to take part in a project in Malawi. I learned so much about myself and the company on that trip and I think this experience has really helped me get on the career ladder. Edge Hill has definitely prepared me for working. The course has opened my eyes and made me really think about what I need to do to stand out.”

“I feel I’ve discovered my potential. The course highlights your abilities, particularly ones you didn’t even know you had before, and helps you discover areas you can develop. It’s easy to always play to your strengths but sometimes you need to challenge yourself too. I never thought I’d work for a global company, but Edge Hill made me believe in myself.”

Supermarket(ing)

“We learn how to think and act like we’re working in a genuine marketing agency, with real briefs and actual clients.” BSc (Hons) Marketing student, Holly, has relished all the opportunities to enhance her future career during her course.

“The opportunity to work with Booths supermarket was one of the highlights of the course. The project was to raise awareness of Booths’ commitment to sustainability and it was done exactly as if we worked for a marketing agency. We were given a brief by the store manager, then had to apply what we had learnt on the course to produce a multi-channel campaign. We had to present our ideas to the client at the end, which was nerve-wracking, but we gained so much from the whole experience. You can write an essay about planning a campaign, but to have the opportunity to take a brief, work up a campaign and present it to the client is so much more valuable. Everything on the course is done with one eye on the job market.”

“The best thing about university is discovering new skills and talents I didn’t know I had, and finding out what my strengths are. I now know that I work well in a team and can perform under pressure – skills that are essential for working in marketing.”
