Moving to a new country to start university is such an exciting opportunity. But between working out your timetable, making new friends and settling into a new place, you may not have had a chance to take in all your induction and welcome information.
So, we’ve brought together some useful information to help you settle in and get the most out of your first few weeks.
Have you fully enrolled onto your course?
You should have completed Stage One of enrolment online before you arrived. You also need to complete Stage Two so you can access your online sessions and receive your student loan on time, when you arrive on campus.

Are you familiar with your Induction timetable?
The timetable tells you what you’re doing and where you need to be during your first week at EHU. You can view yours on your applicants’ page.
Your Orientation Week
Your Orientation Week takes place Wednesday 25 – Friday 27 September. The time will be filled with information sessions, campus/Ormskirk/Liverpool tours as well as events to help you adjust to the UK and meet new students and staff. To plan ahead, check your Induction timetable. Some activities include:
Scavenger Hunt
Wednesday 25 September
The scavenger hunt will take place around campus. It’s a great way to get to know your new campus, have fun and win a prize.
Global Café
Thursday 26 September
A chance to meet up with other new international students and get to know them by playing Human
Bingo. There’ll also be drinks, cake and prizes.
Welcome event
Friday 27 September
Join new and current students along with staff for a welcome event in Sages (in the Hub). There’ll be hot food and drinks from the EH Market.

Global Friends
Global Friends is a great way to make new friends and chat to current Edge Hill University students. Building friendships through Global Friends can make your first steps integrating into UK university life easier. As well as giving you access to essential information about Edge Hill and the local area. If you haven’t already joined Global Friends, you can complete an online request form.
Student Life Portal
To find out what’s on around campus, visit the Student Life Portal. Explore events, find ways to develop, connect and find new friends. There really is something for everyone. And it’s all in one place. Some events require you to book in advance, so we recommend checking in regularly. To access the Student Life Portal you will need log in with your student ID number.
Student Life Fest
Tuesday 1 October, 12-4pm
Student Life Fest is an exciting, free event for all new students here at EHU. Featuring three zones of fun: the Sports and Wellness Hub, Creatives Corner, and the Tech and Games Lounge, and so much more – this is not to be missed. Make connections, find community, and build new friendships to kickstart your EHU student life.
This event will start off in the Hub with free food, where you can sign up for specific sessions which spark your interest within our three zones. You can chat to Campus Connectors who will signpost you to where you need to go, and enjoy a bite to eat.

Sport and fitness facilities
There’s something for everyone at the Sports Centre. Try out the fitness suite, swimming pool, classes and racket sports with a free trial student membership.
If you enjoy using our fantastic facilities, you can then purchase your student membership for a discounted price of just £99 for the whole academic year. But you must purchase it before 13 October. This membership includes the fitness suite, exercise classes, swimming and Campus Sport programme.

Edge Hill Sport now offers 1-2-1 personal training. This means whatever your goals, fitness level or experience our Personal Trainers are here to help you reach them.

Get to know your Library and Learning Services
The Catalyst is home to specialist support teams including Library and Learning Services, Student Services, and Careers. You can get to know them by visiting their induction webpage. The webpage gives you access to the Learning and Support Services Induction toolkit to give you everything you need for a successful start to EHU. What’s new on campus?
Here at Edge Hill, we are constantly improving our facilities. And right now we are excited to introduce:
Brand new SU
Our beloved Students’ Union facility is getting an upgrade. The new space will home flexible indoor spaces which can be used for events both day and night. Everything from society rooms to informal open spaces and the technology to create more interactive experiences. The social spaces will also spill over to the outdoors. Get ready for an outdoor cinema, food markets as well as places to meet up, relax and belong.
State-of-the-art Life Sciences facilities
Investing in your future, this building will help to make advances in the University’s Biomedical research. With work being done in areas such as cancer, neurobiology, genetic skin conditions and ageing.
Even more accommodation
We are proud to have been awarded Best University Accommodation in the UK on Uni Compare. As well as our halls being voted in the top 10 nationally in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2023. Both of these awards are a result of students like you voting. We have invested £23.6m to add another 232 en-suite rooms to our campus. Now even more students can enjoy our outstanding living experience.
The new developments will contribute to a campus atmosphere that will inspire you, both academically and socially. Providing space to breathe and develop your potential.
Need a breather?
The Faith and Reflection Room (based in the Magnolia building at Forest Court) is available to all as a space for prayer, meditation, or just to relax. You can access the Room 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Between 6am and 9pm, Monday to Friday, entry is available by swiping your Unicard. Outside of these times the door is manually locked. If the door is locked please go to the Security and Customer Information Centre, at the University Main Entrance.
Feeling lonely or struggling to settle in?
There’s lots going on during Induction Week to keep you busy and help you socialise, but you may also feel lonely or be struggling to settle in. We want you to know that there’s plenty of support available if you need it. Look out for the Induction Week helpdesk on campus where you can talk to staff. Chat to one of your Campus Connectors. They have been in your shoes and know what it’s like. Or you can visit the Supporting your transition to University webpage. There you can find information on what to expect, overcoming worries and support on the different aspects of university life.

Induction helpdesk
On campus
A pop-up Induction Helpdesk is available in the Hub if you need support or help signposting to information, advice and guidance during Induction Week and the first week of teaching.
The desk will operate 8.30am-5pm from Saturday 28 September to Friday 4 October and from Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 October
Online
An online live chat Induction Helpdesk will also be available during these times and will be accessible to students via the Students’ Homepage.
Catalyst Helpdesk Team
The Catalyst Helpdesk Team are there to answer questions about most aspects of university life. So it’s a great place to go if you’re unsure about who to speak to. Even if it feels like you have a silly question, it will probably have been asked before. Don’t be afraid to pop in and ask. The Helpdesk is located on the ground floor of Catalyst.
The team can also help you by phone or email so wherever you are, you can easily get in touch. The helpdesk is available between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 6pm at weekends.
