Edge Hill University was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Janice Long, a legendary broadcaster and Honorary Doctor of the University.

Janice Long had an illustrious and trailblazing career across TV and radio, which included being the first woman to present her own daily show on BBC Radio 1 and the first woman to regularly present Top of the Pops. She was renowned as a champion of new talent, giving many household names their first breaks, and was tremendously warm and loved by colleagues and audiences alike.

Janice was also a great supporter of Edge Hill University and delivered a wonderful speech to graduands upon accepting her honorary doctorate in 2018.

Our thoughts are with all of her family and friends.
