Dr Axel Kaehne from Edge Hill University has been elected President of the European Health Management Association (EHMA), a Europe wide network of health and social care organisations.
Reader in Health Services Research Dr Kaehne has held a position on the EHMA board for two years helping to shape the direction and work of the association. Now, as President, he aims to extend the reach and increase the membership of this key organisation.
EHMA is a member organisation bringing together academics, researchers and health care providers on all themes relating to health care management, such as leadership, integrated care and hospital management. It specialises in providing shared learning activities and joint projects funded by the European Commission.
Dr Axel Kaehne said: “The European Health Management Association is an amazing organisation that pools the knowledge and resources of academics and experts from across Europe. I am immensely proud to be elected its president. I aim to expand its work by increasing membership and make EHMA a key organisation for training and teaching in Europe in the field of health management.”
Members of the EHMA can tap into a huge network of researchers, academics and experts from across Europe increasing research capacity and providing support from peers.
Current projects undertaken by EHMA can be found on their website. Dr Kaehne was previously involved with Sustain, a project which was looking at ways to provide sustainable tailored integrated care for older people in Europe.
“Sustain is a great example of EHMA’s work in the field of integrated care” Dr Kaehne explained. “It brought together colleagues from VU University Medical Centre and the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment looking to assess integrated care initiatives in seven European countries. Sustain aimed to improve integrated care for older people living at home with multiple health and social care needs and is an excellent example of the collaborative spirit EHMA injects into all our work.”
As well as supporting research, EHMA organises an annual conference which is taking place virtually on November 17th to 19th. The theme of this year’s conference is health management in times of COVID and looks at the unique challenges and changes the global pandemic has caused.
