Mum-of-three Angelica Gonzalez, who left South America to build a better life for her family has completed her degree despite working hard in a full-time career.
When Angelica came to Rochdale from Venezuela 10 years ago she started working in a nursery and despite climbing the ladder to deputy nursery manager has graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Early Years Leadership.
But despite her achievements, Angelica has set her sights on a management career and has already accepted a place on a Master of Business Administration postgraduate programme at Edge Hill.
The 32-year-old, said: “Back in Venezuela I worked in finance as an accountant but we moved to the UK to start to build a better life for our children, aged six, eight and ten.
“I started in a low-level role at a nursery in Manchester and managed to work my way up, studying all the levels of nursery practitioner right up to becoming deputy manager.
“I did a foundation degree through Bolton University but once I attended an open day at Edge Hill I knew I wanted to come and study here and complete a full degree.
“I’ve always enjoyed learning and I think it’s really important that you continue to learn whatever job you do, marrying theory with practice.
“It hasn’t been easy working full-time, studying full-time and being a busy mum, but I wanted to set a positive example to my children that if you work hard you can succeed in life.”
Angelica is now hoping to combine her practical work experience as an accountant with learning new skills around business management and administration.
She added: “My tutors were extremely helpful and supported me when I needed an extra push. I like to get things done and people ask me why I’m continuing to work and study and not take a rest.
“I think that once you stop you won’t want to come back. I’m used to how busy life is and I can’t wait to start my MBA then hopefully move into a financial or human resources management role in the future.”
