Students at Edge Hill University are having their inspiring volunteering work recognised as part of National Volunteer Week celebrations.
To mark the week, which runs from 1st to 7th June, Edge Hill wants to say a big thank you and has started the ‘Voluncheers Competition’ to celebrate their contributions.
Students who volunteer are being encouraged to send in photos that represent their experience of volunteering with the chance of winning an Amazon voucher.
Volunteering Advisor Jennie Owen said:
“Our students do a wide variety of volunteer work helping a range of organisations from the NSPCC to the Lancashire Volunteer Partnership. We are proud of what they do, especially during the Covid-19 crisis. It has been inspiring to see how our students are going above and beyond to help some of the most vulnerable and it’s great to be able to say thank you.
“Although no volunteer ever lends a helping hand simply to get recognition, I think it is really important that we acknowledge the hard work our student volunteers do in the community. I hope to see some great entries for our Voluncheer Competition so we can show off their achievements on social media. If you are a volunteer or know someone else who is, please send in an entry to firstname.lastname@example.org.”
Volunteering can be hugely rewarding and is a great way for students to learn some extra skills while studying for their degrees.
Volunteering Ambassador Harry Huckin who volunteers for the Scouts said:
“Volunteering is always important, regardless of how much or how little you do. Volunteering is about learning while doing and watching relationships and events grow; this, in some cases, can significantly help your mental health. Volunteering can help support your academic profile and bolster your employability.”
To enter you must be a current student at Edge Hill University and need to submit your photo by 7th June 2020 to email@example.com. Use ‘Voluncheers’ as the subject title and include your name, contact details and student number in the email. Tell us which organisation you are currently volunteering with and in what role. Please ensure you own the photo or have permission for it to be used on Edge Hill’s website and social media channels. The winner will be announced on the EHU Careers Twitter account by 12th June and will receive a £20 Amazon voucher.
The Edge Hill Careers team are also planning to hold an online volunteering fair later this year and will provide all the details as soon as it is arranged.
