At the launch of #LiverpoolReads, Dr Helen O’Keeffe, Associate Dean of Edge Hill’s Faculty of Education, announced a sponsorship of 10,000 library cards for children across the city.

The announcement was made at Liverpool Central Library, where the University joined organisations and schools from across Liverpool to officially launch the 12-month celebration that’s set to get everyone enjoying the magic of reading.

Edge Hill is working on the campaign with Liverpool City Council and other partners including The Reader, Liverpool Learning Partnership, and Comics Youth, a Liverpool-based creative community organisation that supports marginalised young people across the city region.

#LiverpoolReads is also supported by national charity the Reading Agency, which promotes the benefits of reading for children and adults across the country.

As well as the launch of My First Library Card, other initiatives include a reading competition backed by Kathryn Jackson, lead governor on the council of governers at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
