The award-winning theatre company Naughty Corner Productions have created a brand new dark comedy Church Blitz.
Artistic Director and Co-founder of Naughty Corner Productions is former Edge Hill student Mike Dickinson, who formed the theatre company while he was at University, and the cast of Church Blitz features five Edge Hill graduates.
Mike’s dissertation piece The Bastard Queen! which he co-wrote and directed won The Sunday Times National Students Drama Festival Award 2014 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was transferred to The Pleasance Theatre, London.
Naughty Corner Productions went on to perform the critically acclaimed crime comedy Not the Horse for the second time at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year where it received 4 star reviews, along with the comedy-thriller Dirty Glitter.
Their fourth show Church Blitz follows seven strangers who are all taking cover from strange lights flashing in the sky in a nearby church. From there it is a game of trust and deceit as the paranoia of what is surrounding the church grows and they begin to fear for their lives. Stories begin to change and people don’t seem to be who they are claiming to be.
“We wanted to do something with a strong message in a Naughty Corner way. Church Blitz highlights the crazy world be live in and it’s about fear of the unknown how people deal with it,” said Mike.
“All auditions for Naughty Corner shows are held at Edge Hill and the cast always features current students, alumni and professional actors. This gives students an opportunity to work with a professional theatre company and it’s great for me to be able to keep coming back.”
There will be two preview performances of Church Blitz at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre on Friday 30th June and at Unity Theatre Liverpool on Friday 21st July.
The show will then be performed in full at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August will return to Edge Hill’s Arts Centre for the finale in October.
