Dr Carol Kelly has been appointed the new Head of the Department for Applied Health and Social Care.

Previously a Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Health and Social Care’s Postgraduate Professional Education team, Carol took her new position on 1st October.

With a growing number of programmes related to the health and social care sector, such as exploring nutrition, health and wellbeing, and counselling and psychotherapy, Carol said:

“This is a really exciting time for the department, with the potential to make a significant contribution to the local health and social care workforce requirements of the future. I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to lead and develop this successful team and portfolio.”

Carol Wilson, who has been acting as Interim Head of Department, will continue her support at this level until the end of December.

Dr Kelly qualified as a registered nurse in 1983 and worked as a Respiratory Nurse Specialist for several years. Based in higher education since 2003, Carol principally teaches respiratory care and research methods. She has published widely on respiratory topics and has a keen interest in education of healthcare professionals. She collaborates on several projects with the Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists (ARNS) and is a member of the British Thoracic Society Emergency Oxygen Guidelines Group.
