Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) has become the first trust in Cheshire and Merseyside, and the first specialist trust nationally, to be rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
LHCH was one of only eight trusts in the country to receive the accolade following a programme of rigorous inspections by more than 30 CQC inspectors.
Edge Hill works in partnership with LCHC to deliver the BSc (Hons) Cardiothoracic Practice, a unique programme for qualified practitioners who are looking to develop specialist skills in cardiothoracic care.
Kathryn Drury, Head of Department for Postgraduate Professional Education, said: ““We were delighted to hear of the ‘outstanding’ CQC rating achieved by our partners Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS foundation Trust.
“Edge Hill University has an established partnership with the trust and we recognise the commitment and hard work of the clinical team. We offer our congratulations on this excellent rating from the CQC in recognition of the trust’s commitment to patients.”
LCHC is the largest single-site specialist heart and chest hospital in England. Based in Broadgreen, Liverpool, it specialises in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology and respiratory medicine, and has more than 1,500 staff and volunteers.
